The huge Age of the Ring mod for LOTR: The Battle for Middle-Earth II has been updated to version 10. It now features a new campaign and has become a standalone title, effectively turning it into a freeware game.
The game The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Despite it’s advanced age it remains quite popular among RTS fans. EA has completely abandoned the franchise, but fortunately, the fans have not, and the modding community of this classic is still very active. The latest result of their efforts is the long-awaited version 10 of the massive Age of the Ring mod.
It's also worth mentioning that Age of the Ring offers a free-roaming strategic campaign, featuring turn-based gameplay on a world map and real-time battles.
