Today, a classic fighting game franchise returns with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Fans who bought Advanced Access have already been playing for a few days, but the game is released today for everyone. To celebrate, developer SNK is doing something monumental. This is the first new installment in the Fatal Fury series for twenty-six years, with the last title released in 1999. In our review, we called Fatal Fury: City of the Wolvesmore than just another fighting game.” This newest title in the SNK library will join the SNK World Championships 2025 with a $2,500,000 prize pool for this game alone.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves celebrates launch with huge tournament prize pool

If you didn’t know about the SNK World Championships, it’s an annual tournament where players compete in various SNK fighting games around the world. Qualifying tournaments are held around the world, with other SNK titles like Samurai Shodown and The King of Fighters XV already hosting qualifying tournaments. The finals will be held later this year in the U.S., and it will be the first time Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is featured as a main title. The total prize pool will be two and a half million dollars as mentioned above, but the champion will walk away with $1,500,000 just in this one tournament. I don’t consider myself great at fighting games, but is it too late to start practicing?

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves shared more information in a post on social media. They say: “More information about prizing, qualifier schedules, and so on will be released soon. Don’t miss this opportunity!” I agree, even if you don’t think you’re great at fighting games, if you can easily attend one of these qualifiers, it’s worth at least giving it a shot. Maybe you are better than you think.

What a way to celebrate the return of a beloved fighting game franchise. This entry in the series is not pulling any punches, as they’ve also recently introduced Cristiano Ronaldo and DJ Salvatore Ganacci as playable characters. I don’t think I could have guessed that if you gave me all year.

City of the Wolves’ initial season pass will also bring Ken and Chun-Li from Street Fighter to this new title, along with several other characters throughout the rest of this year. It’s going to be a banner year for Fatal Fury and well deserved after such a long hiatus. Best of luck to anyone who tries to qualify for the tournament!
