Despite the ups and downs, MechWarrior 5 Clans is still moving forward. New Mechs, intense battles, and a brand-new campaign are on the way.
The MechWarrior series has been around since 1989, changing hands between different developers over the years before landing with Piranha Games in 2011. MechWarrior 5: Clans launched a few months ago, but it didn’t sell as well as expected. Combined with layoffs at one of Piranha Games' branches, this made the future of the series feel a little shaky. But despite the setbacks, the game is still getting support – they just announced a new expansion, showing that MechWarrior isn’t going away just yet.
Ghost Bear: Flash Storm is an upcoming DLC scheduled for release in April 2025. In this expansion, will take command of the Silveroot Keshik, an elite unit of Clan Ghost Bear, in a new 12-mission campaign. It also introduces Elementals, the Clan’s power-armored infantry, which were previously only seen in cutscenes.
The expansion introduces four new OmniMechs:
And four new BattleMechs:
We’ll also be able to direct Elemental squads in combat and engage in battles aboard the hull of the Ghost Bear command ship, the Grizzly.
Ghost Bear: Flash Storm will be available on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5 for $19.99 – the same price as the last DLC, Trials of War, which was later made free, with refunds given to those who bought it.
That said, I don’t think the same thing will happen this time. Trials of War became free after community feedback, saying it didn’t offer enough for the price. It only added a 5-player PvP Arena Mode, co-op Horde Mode, and 12 new OmniMech variants, which didn’t sit well with many fans. Ghost Bear: Flash Storm, on the other hand, includes a full story campaign, making its price feel a lot more justified.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
