MechWarrior Video Game Series
The cult series of simulation games set in the BattleTech universe. The series launched in 1989, and over the years it has been handled by various development studios such as Dynamix, Beam Software, Genesis, Activision, Zipper Interactive, FASA Studio and Piranha Games (which has held the rights to the brand since 2011).
MechWarrior games take us on a journey into the universe of BattleTechor more precisely - to a colonized area of the galaxy, known as the Inner Sphere. During the games we control a powerful mech and perform tasks, taking part in events that leave their mark on the entire universe. You will experience moments from the history of the world BattleTech like the Third Succession War, Clan Invasion, Federated Commonwealth Civil War, Operation Serpent or Operation Bulldog.
A pillar of all the games in the MechWarrior series is combat. Since the games include simulation elements, battles here are fought at a slow pace; the colossi we control are slow but sturdy and armed to the teeth, making them a sort of walking fortresses. All of this means that we have to spend some time learning the meanders of the controls in order to deal efficiently on the battlefield. In addition, the games put at our disposal a wide range of modifications, allowing us to adapt the mechs to our needs and individual preferences.
The first part of the series, titled simply MechWarrior, made its debut on PC in 1989. The second installment of the series, MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat, was released on PC in 1995; two years later, the game was also released on PlayStation and Saturn consoles. The third part of the series, MechWarrior 3, was released on PC in 1999, and MechWarrior 4: Vengeance was released on PC in 2000. The fifth installment of the series - MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - was released on PC in 2019, while two years later it appeared on Xbox One and Series X/S, as well as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
In addition to the main installments, the series has recevied a number of spin-offs and expansions over the years. In 1995, MechWarrior2 got an expansion called MechWarrior 2: Ghost Bear's Legacy. A year later, the title received a standalone expansion titled MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries, and in 2002 it was followed by an add-on for the fourth main game, titled MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. In 2013, we got a multiplayer-oriented MechWarrior Online; in the same year a tactical spin-off, MechWarrior: Tactical Command, was released on mobile devices. In 2024, got MechWarrior 5: Clans, a standalone game that, unlike the first MechWarrior 5 offered a linear story campaign (set during the bloody Clans Invasion).
