After almost exactly 2 years in Early Access program, Ready or Not, warmly received spiritual successor of SWAT series, has been officially released with 1.0 version. With numerous changes and adjustments, the game invites players to get back into the fray. Unfortunately, not only windows and doors are being crashed in this title, as after the update some users have experienced crashes with the game itself. There have been also some stutters observed, so here we have gathered all you need to know about them and how to work around it.

Ready or Not crashing fix

It is always disappointing to launch a game after a fresh update only to discover that it’s not working anymore. This has happened to a group of fans with the latest Ready or Not patch that introduced some major changes (it officially ended the title’s early access period). It seems that those extensive tweaks are indirect cause of the crashes.

Chances are that if you experience issues after the update, you have been installing mods at some point in the past. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that as they are usually amazing. One of them allows you to play as a Trauma Team from Cyberpunk 2077. Since Ready or Not has been significantly readjusted, old modifications can cause problems. This is very common scenario and it happened already with games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Satisfactory.

In this scenario the solution is quite clear – uninstall / delete all the mods that you have applied. But before that, the developers have prepared a “safe launch” option that can help you. If that won’t do, you would have to delete all files from readyornot/content/paks folder and then verify the game’s integrity. In some cases, however, it may be necessary to uninstall the game entirely and delete all of its directories and folders.

It is a rather harsh solution but worry not. It is highly probable that after some time your favourite modifications will be updated and optimized to the recent game version, and you will be able to enjoy them again.

Stutters in Ready or Not

Alongside crashes, a group of fans have also noticed stutters that did not occur before the 1.0 update of Ready or Not. The first thing to try in this case is the same as in the previous step – launch the game in safe mode or uninstall the mods as they would probably be unoptimised for the latest version.

Players are pointing out that changing DirectX version to 12 alleviates the problem for them (you can choose the DX version while you launch the game, and a proper window pops up). It’s quite the contrary to what usually solves the problem with Unreal Engine based games recently, like in the case of The Finals. It is worth noting that Ready or Not doesn’t use its latest, 5 version, but UE4. There is a caveat though, as not all GPUs support DX12.

Keep in mind that compiling shaders, which seems to be one of the reoccurring themes of this year’s technical issues, can be a case too. Usually, waiting for them to compile resolves the problem.

An obvious thing to try would be to lower the game’s video quality settings a bit to check if it has any influence on the game’s fluidity.

Naturally, we can expect further updates from the side of VOID Interactive, as they will continue to develop their game. Undoubtedly, they will bring more content as well as optimisations and bugfixes.
