MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity, thanks to a discount and a DLC called Rise of Rasalhague, which introduced quite a few new features to the game, including Infiltration Missions or the Bounty Hunter mechanics. In this guide you will learn more about it..
The Rise of Rasalhague DLC added a mechanic to the game that introduced other mercenary outfits on the galaxy map. If you fly to a system covered by the activity zone of a given mercenary group, there is a certain chance that we will encounter them during a contract. Other mercenaries can be our allies, enemies, or even both during a single mission. Their attitude is completely random.

If we perform a task on a system that is in the zone of a mercenary outfit and have an encounter with it, we will hear back from the Bounty Hunter, who collects information on mercenary activities and will reward us if we provide him with intel. By performing tasks in which mercenaries appear, we will fill the Rival Intel bar. When it fills up, Bounty Hunter will send us a reward.
By filling up the Rival Intel bar, you can get a variety of rewards, including weapons, cash or lore trivia on mercenary outfits, but among the most important are paintjobs for mechs, so if you want to get some of that, Bounty Hunter is the man to go to.
