Skull and Bones is one of the most anticipated titles among many gamers. What kind of gamers, you ask? Well, those who suffer from a shortage of pirate games. In an interview, the game's director, Ryan Barnard commented on the game's world and mechanics, revealing that he wants it to be a long-lived game, and for this reason it will not come to PS4 or Xbox One.

Your pirate - your story

In an interview with trueachievements.com, Barnard told, that he wants players create their own stories and be able to choose the type of pirate they want to be. This was to be expected, since Skull and Bones will be a network game in which the storyline will not be imposed on the player. The developer himself also admitted that the game will not be plot-driven, but it will not lack narrative elements. In the game we will also encounter NPCs with their own stories, which will be explored by performing tasks for them.

World and exploration

Ryan Barnard explained that crafting, buying equipment and signing contracts will take place on land, but it will not be possible to fight battles there, because Skull and Bones will be mainly a sea-based game. Random events are also to appear in the title, such as an attack on a settlement, which we can protect, or join the aggressors and get some of the loot.

“I am most excited for players to fill out their fleet, and see the depth to naval combat and how our weapon counter system works. It’s also going to be interesting to see how players take on the toughest challenges we have in-game — the forts. I’m really excited to see and to continue to develop and work with the community.”

Skull and Bones will certainly be compared to Sea of Thieves, in which we will find a lot of interesting mechanics that affect good fun. I myself am a fan of pirate climates and will certainly give Ubisoft's game a chance, but I can't hide the fact that I'm a little worried about the lack of option to fight on land.

The game is set to debut on November 8, this year, and will be available on PC, Xbox X/S and PS5.
