Players reviewed The Blood of Dawnwalker showcase. After 21 minutes, many dropped their doubts: it's The Witcher 3, but a bit unrefined

The Rebel Wolves team presented a long gameplay trailer from The Blood of Dawnwalker. Even though it's clear that the game is in the early stages of development, the reception from players is mostly positive, although there have been a few hiccups.

First, however, let's summarize the most important information we received during the gameplay showcase. It should be noted that this was only a pre-beta version, so a lot of things may change before the release.

First and foremost, the devs presented a combat system based on choosing the right direction of attack and defense from four available options. This brings to mind games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 or For Honor.

Variety is enhanced by abilities, the use of which costs us charges accumulated during combat. We can unlock skills through a tree divided into three categories: human perks, vampire perks, and shared perks. Moreover, there is a fourth tab called "active abilities."

The creators also showed the nighttime gameplay, when Coen becomes a vampire and gains more exploration options. In the footage, we can see how he runs on walls or uses his ability to quickly jump across rooftops. The player can also take advantage of the so-called "focus mode," which highlights important objects and is essentially the equivalent of the Witcher senses from The Wild Hunt.

It was also emphasized that the tasks can be done in many different ways. There is also a time limit - we only have 30 days to complete the Dawnwalker story. Time only passes while completing specific quests, and we don't need to rush while exploring the world. Importantly, the entire map will be open from the very beginning of the game.

Players' reactions

As I mentioned at the beginning, most players liked what the Rebel Wolves team showed. The Blood of Dawnwalker clearly has something from The Witcher 3, which is undoubtedly a significant advantage for many.

However, many people pay attention to the poorly executed elements that require improvement. The camera, which is located too close to the protagonist's back, took the hardest hit. Not everyone also liked the transition to the FPP view when choosing skills, which really disrupts the flow.

Players also noticed the overall stiffness in character movement, which is particularly visible during combat. The animations definitely lack fluidity, which should be improved over time. The city also received some criticism for looking a bit plain and needing more details.

Overall, however, The Blood of Dawnwalker is considered by many to be a really solid title. The pre-beta version has its issues, but it's not lacking in potential. The game's release is planned for 2026, so the developers still have plenty of time to improve it. We can only hope that they will use it well.
