New DLC Turns SnowRunner Into Racing Game; Players Enraged

The new DLC, Season 7: Compete & Conquer, for SnowRunner has disappointed the players. They want more content and off-road, not the racing that the developers have presented them with - especially since it can only be played in multiplayer.

The day before yesterday SnowRunner received a new DLC - Season 7: Compete & Conquer. The expansion was not met with a warm reception, and on Steam the vast majority of reviews are negative - only 13% of reviews are positive.

But why racing?

The main complaint about Compete & Conquer is that the developers apparently wanted a side gig and a little more related to the genre of racing games. After all, as the name of the DLC suggests, it focuses largely on competition with others, which fans of off-road did not like very much.

"In my opinion, the weakest of the seasons so far. It's only one map, and racing doesn't interest me, I feel a bit like they're testing something before the next game. I was expecting better and richer content, so this is just disappointing," wrote Commandjo.

It is also worth noting that not only the idea of racing itself failed. The community does not like the fact that competition can only take place in multiplayer mode.

The rest is also average

However, there's more. The players also complain about the small new map, a small number of missions (there are 35 of them) and the two additional vehicles, which in principle will not be useful anywhere else except in Compete & Conquer.

"This... isn't very good? The buggy is fine, but the new truck can't even carry stuff, it's only suitable for racing. I understand that the developers wanted to try something "new", but the physics don't fit a racing game at all.. Additionally, there is only ONE map, which also does not look great [...]. I am really disappointed. I hope we get something better if more content is to come," wrote Mr.Doggo.

What exactly will we find in Compete & Conquer?

The list of new features is not long. The description of the DLC on Steam includes the following information:

  1. "New racing oriented map in Tennessee (USA) with gravel and off-road tracks. Drive on indoor and off-road tracks in time trials or compete directly against friends in checkpoint races.
  2. Two New Vehicles, including the Gor BY-4 light reconnaissance vehicle and the Azov 43-191 truck in the "Sprinter" version - with a special racing paint job!"

On the other hand, the DLC costs only around $5, i.e. it's not too expensive. Of course, to play it, you also need to have the basic version of SnowRunner.

SnowRunner for next-gen

At the very end it is worth mentioning that since the day before yesterday SnowRunner is also available on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.. Patch for owners of the game on last-gen consoles is free. More information about what has changed in the improved version of SnowRunner can be found here.
