We have known not for a long time that Star Citizen resembles a bottomless piggy bank. The game has been in development in early access since June 2014, and it's still hard to say when its actual release will take place.

It's a bit spiteful to say that studio Cloud Imperium Games doesn't hurry, as the community's fundraising for this game constantly constitutes a huge source of money.

  1. In total, the project has already been supported by almost 5 million people - 4,961,923 to be exact.
  2. In total, they have contributed a dizzying amount of 650,209,825 US dollars to the game. Yes, you've read that right. Just over $650 million!

In November 2023 alone, players supported the game with more than USD 28 million. This is shown in the following graph:

To compare this amount to the budgets of other games, I'll zoom in on some numbers:

  1. Cyberpunk 2077 cost about $313 million (we are talking here about the base game alone);
  2. work on Destiny 2 consumed approximately $500 million.

So will Star Citizen turn out to be the most expensive game ever? Not necessarily - according to recent reports the budget of GTA VI is said to be $1-2 billion. Well, unless one day the collection for SC will clear even this bar...

As a reminder and in reference to the above information, I will add that tomorrow at midnight Rockstar Games will demonstrate the first trailer of GTA VI. You can find more details about it in a separate message.
