The Day Before Significantly Delayed; Pulled From Steam [UPDATE]

There has been a lot of talk about The Day Before lately. The game has been pulled from Steam, players have not received the promised gameplay video, and the release has been delayed. The developers cite a dispute over the rights to the game's title as the reason.

Update

Interesting doubts were shared by chief moderator of The Day Before's Discord server, WHOLF. Back in mid-January he announced the imminent release of a gameplay, and now he wonders whether the game even exists. He also confirmed that the moderation team has not yet seen any gameplay videos. In addition, they, too, are supposed to do their work mainly on a volunteer basis, and on top of that under the terms of an NDA.

Original news

Premiere of The Day Before has been delayed. The game, which was scheduled to debut on PC on March 1, will not go on sale until November 10, 2023 at the earliest. The game has also been pulled from Steam.

Developers at Fntastic commented on all this in a message published on Twitter, also stating the reasons behind the decisions.

The Day Before pulled from Steam

Yesterday The Day Before was removed from Steam. One of the creators tried to explain the matter, suspecting a system error caused by Valve's maintenance. Most players had suspicions about this explanation - as it turns out, rightly so. For this reason, the developers paid more attention to the matter in the statement.

The Day Before has been announced two years ago. Knowing this and the content of the announcement, the question that comes to mind is: why didn't the developers register the trademark before the game was revealed? Unfortunately, no one has addressed this particular issue.

The Day Before delayed to November 2023

Originally, the game was supposed to debut on June 21, 2022, but a month before the scheduled release the developers have postponed it to March 1, this year. Today we have an analogous situation, as the title has received a new planned debut date, set for November 10, 2023.

The decision is disappointing, especially since a few days ago one of the developers promised he would show a long excerpt of gameplay later in January. Currently, the studio is consulting the matter with lawyers. It remains to be patient and wait for further developments.

The Day Before was scheduled to debut on PC on March 1, this year. The new release date is November 10, 2023 (the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X version is scheduled for 2024). Before it was removed from Steam The Day Before was one of the most anticipated games on Valve's platform.

It is worth mentioning that Fntastic is another Russian studio that has fled the country. The company was originally founded in Yakutia. The developers moved to Singapore. They are assisted in their work by people from different parts of the world (e.g. Netherlands and Thailand). Interestingly, many of them do it on a volunteer basis.
