Total War is a series that is very well known to all fans of 4X strategies. Developed for years by already experienced in the genre studio Creative Assembly, it offers economic and tactical challenge for players who would like to try alternate versions of history and command their favorite nations. Its latest instalment, Total War: Pharaoh, was received very tepidly by the fans. Making it up, the studio just recently released a free update for this game subtitled Dynasties. Promising many interesting additions to this title, there is one that completely changes how the battles flow – lethality. Let’s explore what it does and how to disable or adjust it.

Lethality system in Total War Pharaoh Dynasties

To keep the series fresh and more authentic, the new lethality system was added alongside the recent, big update called Total War: Pharaoh Dynasties. In its core it’s quite simple – it adds a chance to all successful attacks to immediately kill a unit. No matter how powerful or elite the warrior is, it has a chance to die instantly from a single blow. It is worth noting, however, that different units and specific attacks have different lethality chances – you can see this in the weapon damage toolkit.

While the developers see it as a more cinematic and dynamic way to experience the encounters, many fans view it as overpowered and unbalanced functionality that makes archers and other ranged units way too powerful while leaving heavy armored infantry nearly powerless. This does not mean that this system is bad in general.

A lot of players see it as a good addition, yet would rather have more control over it, as right now it is turned on to 50% by default yet can be cranked up to 100% or turned off completely. There is always a chance that mods will allow to more granularity when it comes to the strength of this effect. Also, we can hope that Creative Assembly pays attention to fans’ voices and will re-tweak some of the otherwise interesting mechanics.

Overall, the initial reception to this huge update is very positive. With a bit more minor adjustments this game can be one of the better in the whole series. Have fun!
