Xbox Won't Use Call of Duty as Bait for PlayStation Owners; 'That's Not Our Goal,' says Phil Spencer

The head of Xbox argues that Call of Duty will not be an exclusive title for the Xbox console. The popular shooter is to be available on all platforms, including Nintendo.

The British regulator has given the go-ahead for Activision Blizzard's merger with Microsoft, so it could be finally and globally approved. On this occasion, the Xbox owner released special material welcoming the acquired studios to the new family, and Phil Spencer, head of the gaming division of the American giant, took part in a podcast, where he commented, among other things, on the future of Call of Duty.

Call of Duty on all platforms

Spencer confirmed that Xbox has no intention of limiting the availability of Call of Duty on other platforms. Nor are the company's plans to use the popular series to convince Sony console owners to switch to Microsoft platforms.

The head of Xbox wants all Call of Duty players feel like full-fledged members of the community. This means that there should be no differences in the game's content across platforms. Spencer mentioned however, about some "inaccuracies" in the technical layer, such as different frame rates, as in this context everything will depend on the capabilities of a particular platform (let's note that the series is expected to return in the future on Nintendo platforms as well).

"Our goal is not to use Call of Duty [as a bait - ed. note] to buy an Xbox console. I want the Call of Duty community feel supported on all platforms. For a while we felt excluded - even the beta version wasn't on Xbox for the first week. I don't think such moves help the community," said Phil Spencer.

In the above quote, Spencer referred, among other things, to the dates of the already completed beta of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Recall that PlayStation owners were able to check out the game sooner than owners of other platforms.

The aforementioned Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will debut on November 10. The game will hit PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
