Uncharted 1: The Heart of the Vault - Chapter 17 walkthrough

This page of our guide to Uncharted Drake's Fortune contains a detailed description of Chapter 17 - The Heart of the Vault. During this stage, a new enemies in the form of bloodthirsty monsters appear for the first time. Initially, Nate will have to fight in a circular hall. However, at the end of this chapter he will have to escape from the vault.

Nate and Elena were in the catacombs and after a preliminary examination of the place they've found... Drake's corpse[1]. There were a lot of AK-47 rifles and Moss-12 shotguns in the room - Nathan took one of these weapons with him [2] cause he expected a lot of trouble in the nearest future.

Elena asked Nate to boost her, so she could grab the damaged ladder [1]. Unfortunately, the main character could not join her right away and had to wait for Elena to find a solution to this problem. After a while, things became much more complicated - monsters have started to appear in the catacombs. Beasts slaughtered a few bandits and rushed towards Nate and Eddy [2].

After the battle has begun, Nate had to focus on shooting the monsters that appeared in the catacombs [1]. AK-47 or shotguns were very helpful in killing these creatures, and more of these weapons constantly spawned in the area. The hero could eliminate monsters by aiming at them with a lot of precision or by shooting at their hips [2] - the latter method was better when you had to react faster. Nate also tried to keep the monsters at a distance - if you got caught by one of them then it's necessary to press the Triangle on your controller to free the hero.

The battle stopped after some time but unfortunately the monsters managed to get Eddy [1]. It meant that Nate was on his own from now on. Again, the best tactics consisted in running around the room, performing numerous rollovers and using AK-47 or Moss-12. Nate had to defend himself against endless attacks of new monsters until he received a message from Elena that she has lowered a rope [2].

After catching the rope, Nate could start climbing it and join Elena on the upper ledge [1]. Unfortunately, this didn't end all their troubles. The monsters managed to reach the top and the escape scene began, during which Nate and Elena had to run ahead (towards the bottom of the screen) [2].

During the escape, Nathan could blindly fire at his enemies to slow them down [1] - if even one of these monsters have caught our heroes then they would die immediately. Nate and Elena finally managed to escape from the monsters and closed the big door to shake off the cruel beasts. The heroes have arrived to the bunker control room [2].
