How to get food and how to heal characters in Void Bastards?
On this page of the guide to Void Bastards, we answer two very important questions - how to get food and how to recover lost health points. Both of these topics are extremely important for keeping your character alive.
Getting food
The most common way of getting food is to find it as loot. Explore the enemy ships carefully. Food can lie in plain sight or be stored in containers. DINE rooms are especially important. Most of the ships should provide you at least 5 units of food.
Food can also be bought after docking on one of the Krell-Mart ships. However, spending credits (Merits) on food should be the last resort. Do this only if your food stocks are running low.
You can find Food Packs on the nebula map. Look for the Food Pack fields. Once you reach such a field, you will get a random amount of food.
Another way of getting food is to order it in the FILE room. These large and round rooms appear only in specific ships. There, you will find a device with three levers - choose the one for food deliveries. Orders are free.
After a few jumps/turns on the nebula map, the ship with ordered food will arrive.
Consumption
You can't eat food while playing a mission, even if you find new units of food. You must wait until you return to the S. T. E. V ship. This is the only way you can eat.
The number of available product units is displayed in the Status tab (point 1 in the picture). You can consume them in two ways:
- Automatically when moving to another field in the nebula - you will consume 1 unit of food.
- When sleeping (point 2 in the picture). This is the best way if you have lost more health points and you need to be treated several times.
It is worth remembering two additional things:
- Never consume all your food supplies, otherwise, the character will start starving and losing health points with each subsequent movement on the nebula map. It is always good to have at least 2-3 units of food in stock in case of serious injuries received during a mission or when you have problems with finding food during the exploration of an enemy ship.
- The number of regenerated health points will increase along with the progress of the game and the increase of character's health bar. You aren't required to restore full health. You can use part of your food and start the next expedition with a wounded character.
Later in the campaign, you will be able to unlock the Colon Cleanser project from the bottom right corner of the Workbench menu (it requires Ion Bru and Compressor parts). This project allows you to replenish 50% more health by eating. You can thus increase the effectiveness of treatment and consume much less food.
Med Booth
Ships with a THEATRE room give you a unique opportunity to heal the character during a mission (example in the picture).
Reach that room and you will find a Med Booth. Interact with it to restore health points. However, each of them has a limited capacity. It may turn out that healing all HP of a very badly injured prisoner or using the same Med Booth multiple times can be impossible.
Xon on the Go
Xon on the Go is one of the healing items that can be found on the nebula map (see the picture above). This item heals you instantly (and is one-time use only). Thanks to this item, you can replenish a few hundreds of health points.
