Small and Indie RPGs Coming in 2022 You're Not Hyped About, But You Should

While there will be no shortage of big RPGs in 2022, there are also at least a dozen lesser-known indie games on the cards. If they don't fail on the technological side of things, they may succeed with their pure radness and originality.

Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness

  1. Developer: GrapeOcean Technologies
  2. Release date: March 2022

Black Geyser: Courier of Darkness is probably the most similar to Pillars of Eternity. Both in terms of eye-catching graphics, a perspective that is neatly bridges the gap between isometric and 3D, and some romantic music. Even the interface is reminiscent of the famous RPG from Obsidian.

However, there is no question of copying the plot here. What we have to face in Black Geyser are not ancient deities, bloodthirsty demons (although they will also appear in the game), but plain greed. Moreover, the protagonist and their companions will also be tempted by this vice.

The game already brings a substantial amount of text. So get ready for some intense reading experience. So far, the disadvantages of this production include a little bit unoriginal side quests and the some unevenness of the narrative. Apart from great dialogues, there are some that sound rather infantile. But there is still some time left before the premiere, so maybe the developers from GrapeOcean will be able to brave the high bar.

It's worth the wait because:

  1. if you liked PoE, you'll like Black Geyser;
  2. regardless of the fancy setting, the game deals with realistic issues.
