Gameplay in Risk of Rain 2 combines several elements of popular genres: rougelike - we repeat procedurally generated locations until we defeat a given boss, RPG - we can choose from many character classes with unique skills, and during the game we collect items that give us new opportunities, and a dynamic platformer - battles are fast and packed with action. The game features scaling enemies, which makes the stronger enemies (and their larger numbers) we encounter only after a certain amount of time.

A procedurally generated world full of various environments and enemies is also supposed to provide the same, making each approach different from the last.
