Cyberpunk 2077 Without Secrets - A Handy Guide to Night City

In the last few weeks, it's been a bit of a fright to open the fridge, because Cyberpunk 2077 is pouring out from everywhere. But if you want to learn more about the world, jump in for a quick guide.

Genetic engineering

Animals are not condemned to plastic implants pretending to be animal ears or artificial fur. They can literally afford to become animals to some extent. Genetic engineering in the world of Cyberpunk is much more capable than in our reality. This can be expressed by body modifications that draw some features from foreign genomes, but limiting such powerful knowledge and tech to mere embellishments would be a terrible waste.

If someone lives on Night City streets for more than a few years, they probably owe it to genetics. Cloned, customized organs are the main raw material used in Trauma Team's daily work. If you get shot in the liver or lungs, you don't go for a risky operation to sew them – you simply get new ones. They're often much better than the original ones. Modified stem cells, in turn, greatly accelerate the recovery process.

Genetic engineering is also used to treat diseases. Different kinds of gene therapies allow people to get rid of congenital defects at prenatal stage, and correcting those genes that have not been very successful in nature allows to live longer and in good health... Unless this life is ended by someone's AR.

Flying cars

Flying cars are one of the most likely associations we have with the world of the future. It's interesting that this is one of the sci-fi concepts that hasn't been yet realized: we've reached the Moon, we can genetically modify living organisms, we're using utterly cyberpunk tech, and yet the sad cars are still rolling on wheels.

Fortunately, there are fictional worlds in which – even if only in dreams – we can sit at the wheel of such a machine. In Cyberpunk, flying cars, or more precisely, aerodynes, as they are called, are nothing special. They are powered by engines like the "Rolls-Royce Pegasus II Vectored Thrust Turbofan," which gives them mobility similar to that of modern choppers.

Among the most common models are the urban assault vehicle AV-4, used both by the police and corporate forces; the AV-6, which is a damn flying arsenal, and the private model AV-7, produced for the mass consumer. The vehicles have a maximum speed of 250 to almost 500 mph, with range from 300 to 400 miles.
