Seven GTA Clones So Bad They Should Be Illegal

We know how well GTA sells. No wonder many studios want to create their own hit in the same style. Unfortunately, most of them die trying.

Crime Life: Gang Wars

  1. Release date: November 11, 2005 (PC, PS3, Xbox)
  2. Developer: Hothouse Creations
  3. Publisher: Konami
  4. What went wrong: Boring plot, mundane world, and failed combat system that was supposed to be the main thrust of the game

It must be said that the idea of the creators of Crime Life: Gang Wars was not doomed to fail at all. Gang wars is definitely the thing that could set this production apart from the other GTA clones. Unfortunately, a lot of things just went wrong and ultimately, we got a big plate with nothing on it.

Starting with outdated visuals (even for those years), and ending on mundane gameplay – in Crime Life, nothing worked the way it was supposed to. The fights that were supposed to be the mainstay proved chaotic and completely ill-conceived (with squandered potential of combo punches), the world was empty and the plot was vestigial. Even a great soundtrack didn't help – to this day, it's hard to find any fully positive review of Crime Life.
