What's GreedFall about?
Colonialism remains one of the most popular themes in video games. GreedFall is one of the prime examples, as the action takes place in a 17th-century-inspired universe, where the Old World becomes severely polluted, and consequently, we have to settle in the New World, which – as you can guess – hides not only beautiful views.
In the game, we play the role of an envoy of the Merchant Congregation, officially coming to the New World to establish friendlier relations with local nations, but his goal is also to find a cure for a disease that decimates the Old World in the game.
Why is it worth playing?
First of all, the graphics are very special. Focusing on baroque art or the legacy of colonial culture, the game offers an incredible visual experience. Landscapes and cutscenes were based on baroque paintings, which is a rather unusual solution in games. The mechanics are another great advantage of this production – the game doesn't focus on combat or character development. These elements are of course important, but the main character can always overcome the obstacles encountered on the road, either by force, cunning or diplomatic skills. And the mechanics perfectly serve these purposes.
