Metroidvania? Adventure? Soulslike?
Everything is metroidvania or soulslike – if you're brave enough. That's why it's hard to label The Last Case of Benedict Fox as any particular genre, as the game uses adventure elements to be more challenging. Anyway, the creators also decided to go crazy with the setting, which combines a 1920s Boston with surreal fantasy.
When you gaze into that abyss, it gazes back
We will play as Benedict Fox – a detective accompanied by a demon. Thanks to it, the hero can enter the minds of the dead, which makes it easier for him to solve puzzles. However, the unusual worlds he visits hide many dangers – and the protagonist ends up in the Abyss. And it, in turn, does not like uninvited guests, so be prepared to make prompt use of a pistol, melee weapons and demonic abilities.
