Sedleo is an independent Italian development studio. For their debut project, the developers chose to create an action adventure game set in medieval Italy. Thus was born 1348 Ex Voto.

As the title suggests, the game takes us to the year 1348. The Apennine Peninsula is ravaged by diseases and plague, bandits roam the trails, the threat from mercenaries and religious fanatics is spreading, and the population is massively migrating from the countryside to the cities. The main character of the game is a young misguided female knight named Aeta, whose village was attacked by bandits. Wanting to find and save her friend Bianka, who went missing after an attack, the protagonist embarks on a journey full of dangers.

Gameplay

In 1348 Ex Voto we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).

Brutal adventure in medieval Italy

The adventure leads us through medieval settlements and castles, ancient ruins, as well as picturesque landscapes, headed by the slopes of the Apennines. Given that medieval Italy is not a safe place, we often have to fight opponents.

Sadly a compelling setting, great performances and some occasionally stunning visuals aren't enough to overcome the horrendously uneven and frequently broken combat system which sits at the heart of 1348 Ex Voto and threatens to cast this otherwise intriguing and ambitious indie effort into the ninth circle of mediocrity.

GAMINGbible: 3 / 10 by Kate Harrold

I consider myself to have the ability to see the best in something - and yet, I’m struggling to find any redeeming qualities in 1348 Ex Voto, a game whose concept I was fairly sold on. I can’t fault the ambition of indie studio Sedleo, but I’m afraid several potentially okay ideas have been lost within an experience that is underbaked, unoptimised and, at times, unplayable.
