30XX is a platform action game enriched with elements borrowed from the roguelike genre. The production is the result of cooperation between the independent Batterystaple Games studio and Kowloon Nights and is the second instalment of the cycle initiated by the 20XX.
30XX takes place a thousand years after the events presented in the first part of the series. The characters known from the first part, Nina and Ace, are awakened from a coma and quickly notice that the world around them has changed beyond recognition, becoming nothing more than a prison. The main characters have to get back into action and overthrow Guardians.
30XX is the side-scroller. There are eight procedurally generated worlds waiting to be visited here, which we travel through, jumping on platforms and avoiding numerous traps, as well as facing hordes of enemies. While Nina eliminates enemies with firearms and is able to use the Power Fusion, which allows her to combine the skills taken from defeated bosses, Ace makes perfect use of white weapons, combining the blows out into murderous combinations.
Like the previous version, inspired by the Mega Man cycle, the game is characterized by a high level of difficulty. Although bosses are the greatest threat, ordinary enemies can also spoil us a lot of blood. This is so important that death is permanent here, and when we fall on the battlefield, we have no choice but to start the fight almost anew. Almost because as we progress, we gain a currency known as Memoria, thanks to which we can gain a certain advantage by developing our character's abilities, acquiring the ability to preview the challenges that await us, or modifying the way we generate the next stage. Those who find production too easy can activate (after meeting certain criteria) Entropy Conditions, which in return for the opportunity to win valuable prizes make the game much more difficult.
In 30xx, can be played alone or in co-op mode (either online or locally).
30XX has colorful graphics made in the pixel art technique. The production is pleasing to the eye, thanks to Glauber Kotaki - the artistic director of the project, whose portfolio includes such games as Rogue Legacy, Duelyst and Chasm.
