An RPG with a darker style, focused on participating in turn-based battles using captured creatures. Aethermancer is similar to classic Pokemon games, however it offers 3vs3 battles and roguelike mechanics. They provide randomly generated maps and the risk of permanently losing the creatures.
Aethermancer is an independent RPG game, in which - just like in the Pokemon series - we engage in collecting monsters and using them during turn-based battles. The game is characterized by roguelike mechanics. It was created by Moi Rai Games studio, responsible for the thematically similar Monster Sanctuary.
The essence of Aethermancer is collecting fantasy-looking creatures. It happens through hunting, using the monsters we have already captured. Although we can have many creatures "in reserve", each battle is undertaken by a team consisting of a maximum of three monsters. They have different characteristics and perform unique roles, interacting with each other in various ways. A good synergy of skills and affinities of elements decides whether we will end up victorious.
The turn-based combat mechanics are based on risk limitation and managing Ether. At the beginning of each turn, our group randomly generates a small amount of it according to the elements that it can use. This means that if we have a fire/earth monster, we will receive from it a Fire or Earth Ether. We can then spend it to perform the appropriate action, like a thrust or a burn attack. Our opponents play by the same rules.
In addition to collecting new creatures, we raise the level of the current ones. However, it should be mentioned that the game contains roguelike elements. Maps are procedurally generated, and the death of controlled creatures is permanent. Despite this element, we can bring defeated monsters back to life, but this process can cause the subjected creatures to change, even becoming stronger than before.
Aethermancer is maintained in the style of pixel art, with creature graphics reminiscent of two-dimensional titles from the jRPG genre.
