Monster Sanctuary is a combination of metroidvania and RPG with pixelart graphics, in which players catch creatures like in the Pokemon cycle. The game was created by the independent studio Moi Rai Games.
There are people and monsters in the world. For some time now, however, between these two bloody battles have been fought, bringing many victims. As a descendant of legendary monster hunters and tamers, our task is to go on an expedition to solve the mystery of the dispute between humans and beasts and become a legendary hunter.
The gameplay in the Monster Sanctuary we observe from a side-scroll perspective and as in the case of Pokemon we start by choosing our first pet to accompany us on our journey. It is one of many creatures that we will meet on the road and that, with a little effort on our part, will accompany us and fight for us. Each creature has its own unique Skill Development Tree, which we can improve as soon as we have enough experience points. We gain these during fights where the better we do, the more experience we will gain. Creatures can also be improved by feeding them favourite treats or putting on equipment. All this will increase the basic statistics of our creature, such as strength, health and others.
Fights take place in 3-on-3, where both we and the opponent put up a maximum of three controlled beasts (the same happens when we fight against wild creatures). Fighting is tactical and focused on performing the longest possible chain of attacks. It is up to us which of the tame creatures we want to develop and which of them will be the default unit in our team.
Creatures in Monster Sanctuary are useful not only in combat, but also in exploration. Thanks to their powers, we will enter places we would never have a chance to reach. Our assistants will get rid of even wild vegetation, stone walls, or enable us to slip into tight corners.
Monster Sanctuary is a game with full use of pixel graphics, taking care of details of the surroundings we visit.
