Cyberpunk action RPG game, in which we get to the rising after the catastrophe Metropolis. The main character of ANNO: Mutationem walks through its streets, confronting the adversaries lurking in wait for her.
ANNO: Mutationem is an action RPG developed by an independent Chinese studio called ThinkingStars - a team of both industry veterans and novice developers. This game uses cyberpunk style and allows the player to explore a futuristic metropolis full of powerful corporations and strange creatures.
In ANNO: Mutationem we play as Ann - a woman trained in combat who, for personal reasons, finds herself in the city of Metropolis. She is accompanied by her friend Ayane, a hacker.
ANNO: Mutationem is a side-scrolling game, but sometimes the camera moves behind the heroine - this happens when we explore the cyberpunk city, thanks to which we get to see the game world from a slightly different perspective.
Locations are full of enemies of all kinds, a list of which includes both robots and powerful beasts. We use cold weapons, various guns and other equipment (such as grenades) in dynamic and spectacular battles with our opponents. The heroine can also use combos.
It is worth noting that the game in some ways refers to the metroidvania format - the world is open and we can go back and forth to the already visited locations, where we sometimes encounter new things and events. As we progress through the game, we gradually strengthen the protagonist's stats and gain new abilities and equipment. Players can also modify the weapons they find by using special chips.
In ANNO: Mutationem we can play only solo. A story campaign is the foundation of the gameplay.
ANNO: Mutationem features colorful, pixel art graphics made in 2.5D technique. The title runs on Unity technology and uses a rather classic manga style.
It is interesting to note that the development of this game was accompanied by the SCP Foundation initiative, in which people from all over the world could share their gameplay ideas with the authors.

Game Ratings for ANNO: Mutationem Video Game.
TheSixthAxis: 7 / 10 by Adrian Burrows
ANNO: Mutationem's sublime blending of 2D and 3D visuals is a delight to behold and a joy to experience. Fast-paced combat and competent RPG systems all deliver so, as long as you can accept the incomprehensible plot and naff dialogue, there's a lot to enjoy.
WellPlayed: 7 / 10 by Mark Isaacson
I really did want to enjoy Ann’s story, it’s visually beautiful and has some clever little in-game tricks to its aesthetics. It’s just a damn shame the narrative couldn’t quite keep up, leaving ANNO: Mutationem a visually stunning but muddled, confusing game.
NintendoWorldReport: 7.5 / 10 by Jordan Rudek
I was intrigued by ANNO: Mutationem when it came to other platforms earlier this year, and the Switch version seems to largely offer the same experience but with added portability. Its interesting story and decent challenge, in addition to some compelling world building make a strong case for adding the game to your digital library; a free eShop demo is also available for those who want to dip their toes in first. If you can stomach the miniscule text size and a somewhat flat middle portion of the story, ANNO: Mutationem offers an enjoyable and brisk cyberpunk-flavored adventure.
