ANVIL is an isometric co-op action game in roguelike style. The action takes place in the future, where evil Vault Breakers roam the galaxy to destroy various artifacts and decimate hordes of space monsters.

Plot

The titular ANVIL is an organization that searches for the Vaults, the remnants of alien civilizations scattered in all corners of the universe. Their tool of destruction are the Breakers, powerful soldiers specialized in fighting aliens and able to face the inhospitable atmosphere of other planets. To maximize their effectiveness, they have replaced their bodies with cybernetic parts that, when destroyed, can be repaired in ANVIL's high-tech forges. Due to the technological progress, subsequent repairs allow them to install new upgrades, making them stronger with each rebirth.

Game mechanics

We start the game by choosing the planet, on which we will go to search for the Crypts. Each of them is generated randomly, as well as the set of enemies present on it. The action takes place entirely from an isometric view. After landing on the surface of the globe together with two other players we start to force our way through the arenas full of enemies, from time to time measuring ourselves against powerful bosses. Exploring the corners of each of the planes we find additional upgrades for our character, usually hidden in special chests.

While completing missions we collect new weapons, with which we can equip our Breaker. We can choose from dozens of different weapons, divided into melee weapons (hammers, swords) and ranged weapons (rifles, pistols, flamethrowers). The variety for the basic weapons are special skills that allow us to put up defensive shields, create healing circles or shoot a rocket/grenade at a group of enemies. It's worth choosing equipment that complements other players' weapons, such as the ability to freeze and a grenade that smashes frozen aliens.

Fallen comrades can be resurrected after the cooldown expires. There is a limited number of resurrections for each mission. After each mission we see a summary, where we describe the gained items, upgrades and points that allow to gain another level by the character.

Game modes

ANVIL is oriented on co-op multiplayer mode. In missions can take part 3 people. The game also supports cross-play between PC and Xbox players.

Technical aspects

At the time of release, the title looked decent in terms of graphics, and sowing destruction among enemies is enriched by heavy metal music playing in the background.
