art of rally is a minimalistic game dedicated to car racing. The production was developed by the independent studio Funselektor Labs, in whose portfolio we can find warmly received Absolute Drift.

Mechanics

art of rally shows the action from bird's eye view. More than thirty iconic rally cars have been put at our disposal: cars from the sixties, seventies and eighties, as well as from Group S and the legendary Group B. While driving one of them, we are fighting for victory on fifty routes located in Finland, Sardinia, Norway, Japan and Germany. Although the driving model has an arcade character (and there is nothing to stop us from activating various assists), it's worth making sure we don't damage our vehicle too much, because the defects need to be repaired during the technical break, for which we have a limited time between the next special stages.

Other than that, there's no doubt, the PS5 version of art of rally only makes the game more enjoyable. There's not much you'll be getting in terms of graphics, especially since the low-poly system that it uses, but the aforementioned mix makes it an enjoyable way to get a taste of historical racing.

The main cons of the game

  • Physics and Handling Issues: Several players criticize the driving physics as unrealistic or overly slippery, making it difficult to control the cars effectively. The lack of grip in various conditions is a common complaint.
  • Camera Angles: The top-down camera perspective is often mentioned as a drawback, with some players feeling it obstructs their view and makes navigation challenging.

  • Customization Options: Aside from liveries, there are limited customization or tuning options for the cars, which some players feel would enhance the experience.
  • Dynamic Soundtrack: Some users wish for a more dynamic soundtrack that changes based on gameplay events, rather than a static playlist.
  • More Realistic Weather Effects: Players express a desire for more realistic handling in different weather conditions, particularly in rain and snow, where the physics feel exaggerated.
  • Multiplayer Options: A few players mention that the addition of multiplayer features, such as ghost races, would enhance replayability.
