A modernized and enriched with new content version of the cult shoot'em up from 1979. In Asteroids: Recharged we sit behind the controls of a spaceship and shoot everything that moves. We can play solo or in cooperative mode.
Asteroids: Recharged is a revamped and enriched with new content version of Asteroids, a classic shoot'em up from 1979. It was developed by Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox and published by Atari.
Just like in the older by more than four decades original, in Asteroids: Recharged the storyline does not play a particularly important role. During the game we play the role of a spaceship pilot who faces various threats lurking in interstellar space.
In Asteroids: Recharged we take control over a space fighter presented in a top-down view. In each arena, through which we move freely, our task is to eliminate everything that comes across our barrel; starting with the title asteroids and ending with extraterrestrial flying saucers. We have to maneuver the ship in such a way as to avoid enemy fire and dodge enemy ships or interplanetary debris.
While our ship is equipped with a simple cannon, on the battlefield there are various power-ups that increase our combat potential. We are talking about such upgrades as electromagnetic cannon, black hole launcher or energy shield for our fighter.
In Asteroids: Recharged you can play solo or in local co-op mode. A substitute for online competition is provided by global rankings.
Graphics in Asteroids: Recharged features elements that bring to mind the original game ( such as our triangular fighter jet or the simple, vector-inspired design of asteroids and enemy ships) as well as much more modern components, with colorful backgrounds and a variety of particle effects. In this game, we can listen to a dynamic soundtrack composed by Megan McDuffee.

Gamer Escape: 7 / 10 by Aaron Botts
Equal parts classic gaming action and modern aesthetics, Asteroids: Recharged is worth the pickup for just the convenience of having access to it alone. Given that it’s on every platform available, (and especially in quick hits on Switch) having modern versions of classic games like this is a welcome thing to have within reach. If you’re looking to scratch that classic gaming itch, playing this version of a classic is a welcome addition to the Recharged line of games and is a worthy version worth considering. It’s not perfect, but it’s playable and still as fun now as it was when it dazzled arcade goers in its heyday.

If you’re a fan of Asteroids, love your retro games or need a game to enjoy in short bursts. Asteroids: Recharged is easy to recommend. The Recharged series may be starting to show a repetitive formula but it’s a design that works. There could be room for improvement but it gets the core gameplay right. Asteroids: Recharged is a fun arcade game and for most gamers, that’s all that counts.
Pure Nintendo: 6 / 10 by Trevor Gould
While Asteroids is iconic entertainment, this installment (like the Recharged series in general) is too conservative to vouch for at launch price. When I can say versions of these games from 40 years ago are just as fun, if not more, there is a problem. This series is running out of steam and needs a change in approach to revive interest.
