Although most platform games are maintained in a friendly atmosphere and colorful shades, from time to time there are creators who decide to approach this genre in a completely different way. This was the case with the American team Aya Games, which created the game Ayasa: Shadows of Silence described here.

We are dealing with a platformer set in a gloomy world dominated by darkness. During the game we take on the role of the titular female protagonist Ayasa. She embarks on a dangerous journey to find the remnants of Tasa's light (the Absolute) and with its help to defeat the darkness (or at least try to do so) before it's too late.

Gameplay

In Ayasa: Shadows of Silence we watch the action from the side.

Locations

Adventure leads us through such lands as Faith, Hope, Love, Greed, Indifference, and Betrayal. The source of inspiration for them was the work of Tim Burton, Rene Laloux, Robert Sahakyants and Hayao Miyazaki. Darkness has spread in each of them. A lot depends on the choices we make - whether Ayasa will decide to overcome the darkness, restoring balance in these places, or on the contrary - will allow it to consume her.

Exploration, stealth, abilities

While exploring locations, we need to demonstrate agility and reflexes, jumping on platforms, avoiding traps and bypassing terrain obstacles. The game also features stealth elements. The protagonist must avoid contact with oversized adversaries such as a giant pig, a large eye, and other creatures. As Ayasa progresses, she gains new abilities that allow her to face new challenges.

Puzzles, storytelling

The icing on the cake are the puzzles that are waiting to be solved. They primarily involve using light to deal with darkness and revealing the further path or activating ancient machines. The story is conveyed without words, through pantomime, environmental narration, and soundtrack.
