An action adventure game, in which we play as a young boy traversing a disturbing land inhabited by monsters from Nordic legends, in order to rescue his sister abducted by a troll. The game was developed by an independent Dimfrost Studio.
Bramble: The Mountain King is an action adventure game with platforming elements. It is set in a Nordic-inspired grim fairy tale world inhabited by magical creatures, ranging from tiny, friendly noms to huge, dangerous trolls. The game was developed by Dimfrost, a small independent studio also responsible for the VR game A Writer and His Daughter, and published by Merge Games.
The game stars two siblings who sneak out of their home at night to play in the woods. Accidentally, they end up in a mysterious world - Bramble, a realm where nearly everything is massive by comparison. One of the denizens of this world, a troll, abducts the older sibling. We play as her brother, Olle, who sets out on a dangerous journey to rescue his sister.
The gameplay and the camera angle vary depending on the situation. Most commonly, however, the game is a 2,5D platformer featuring a mix of arcade sequences and puzzles.
The player encounters many different creatures, some of which help us reach our destination, others needing help themselves, and yet others being hostile, forcing us to hide, run or fight. Throughout the areas there are scattered collectibles inspired by Nordic folklore. The player will also hear stories and legends about the creatures met throughout the game.

Bramble: The Mountain King is as gorgeous as it is horrifying, with surprises lurking around every corner. The game excels at building tension and suspense while maintaining visual splendor throughout. Although the game isn’t particularly long–I rolled credits around 7 hours–it is an experience that horror game enthusiasts will not want to miss.

Bramble: The Mountain King is worth a single playthrough, but the lack of any real depth to its gameplay makes it a difficult recommendation to those that might not be drawn in by its gorgeous visuals and atmosphere.
