Batora: Lost Haven is a science fiction action RPG mixing hack'n'slash with mechanics typical for twin-stick shooters. This is another game in the catalogue of Stormind Games, an independent studio previously known for a series of survival horrors based on the cult Clock Tower.
The storyline of Bator: Lost Haven revolves around a cataclysm that ruined most of the Earth and robbed sixteen-year-old Avril of everything. However, the heroine has also gained access to powerful powers which may help her save the dying planet. She embarks on a dangerous journey and learns the fine line between good and evil.
In line with the hack'n'slash convention, we observe the action from an isometric view, and the game is all about exploring locations and fighting hordes of enemies. In battles we can use various material and mental powers. This body-mind dualism is the axis of gameplay, which is expressed, among others, in the presence of two health bars. Enemies attack us both physically and mentally, and the loss of all mental or physical life points equals Avril's death. Players must constantly switch between physical and mental modes to meet the challenges ahead.
The protagonist's decisions play an important role. During her encounters with representatives of different factions, Avril will have to choose whether she wants to solve a problem by force or rely on cunning. Each action has its consequences and influences the fate of both the entire universe and its inhabitants.
Just like previous works of Stormind Games studio, Batora: Lost Haven is a single-player game. The The authors have not foreseen the possibility to play with friends, even in co-op mode.
Developers of Batora: Lost Haven have chosen a retro science fiction style, presenting a vision of the future straight from the 1950s. During the game we visit colourful planets full of fascinating places and often equally intriguing inhabitants. The entire game is 3D, from locations to character models and enemies, albeit hand-drawn by the developers.
