An action RPG with survival elements, set in a procedurally generated fantasy world. Beyond the Map forces us to create our own base and equipment. We explore diverse biomes and fight various enemies. The game doesn't have fixed classes and instead we have a lot of freedom in terms of character development.

Beyond the Map is a representative of the hack'n'slash genre, set in a procedurally generated fantasy world. The game also features plenty of survival mechanics. It presents the action in isometric view and its development was handled by the independent studio Glitch Goblins.

Gameplay

We start the game on the beach, just like in a typical survival title. We begin to collect stones and wood in order to make a crafting table, which is the basis for setting up a base. In order to explore the world without immediate deaths, we need to create weapons and prepare provisions. Therefore, we collect mushrooms and kill wolves in order to obtain meat and leather strips, which allows us to create armor.

Long-range combat requires some dexterity, as staying in one place exposes us to enemy fire. However, if the opponent approaches us, we can to make use of the previously created weapons, such as swords or long-range spears.

In the later stages of the game, we delve into the extraction of resources such as copper and tin, to start dabbling in blacksmithing. Special tailoring and saddlery tables are also available, enabling crafting for a character developed in terms of agility and intelligence. In Beyond the Map every play style has a path to self-sufficiency and progress.

Instead of predetermined character classes, the game offers freedom of configuration. As we defeat enemies and find loot, we collect "skill pages", which we can freely add and remove, creating a custom layout. The system is enriched with glyphs, providing bonuses to connected skills. This allows for thoughtful combinations and makes combat a creative problem-solving in real time.
