Binary Smoke

Binary Smoke is an action adventure game that takes us to a dystopian science fiction world. The game is the debut project of a small, independent studio Outside, founded by Mick Buckmiller and Niles Sankey - former Bungie employees who co-created the Halo and Destiny series.

Plot

Binary Smoke is set in a distant future where humanity has reached such a level of development that it has created a digital singularity - an Artificial Intelligence so powerful that it is uncontrollable. Its ultimate creation is the Binaries, digital life forms capable of sentience that possess supernatural powers.

In Carbon, a powerful megalopolis in the hands of an authoritarian ruling class, one such Binary appears, and she is the game's protagonist. The heroine decides to stand up to the elite of society and start a revolution that will change the city forever.

Mechanics

In Binary Smoke we observe the action from various angles; depending on the stage, we watch the heroine usually from the side or from the top-down view. During the game we move through the futuristic city illuminated by the glow of neon lights and we get to know the characters living there, we avoid numerous traps and obstacles, and we face enemies (usually appearing in groups). Battles are extremely dynamic, and during them both reflexes and dexterity count, as well as skillful use of the protagonist's abilities. The Binary we control is able to create energy shields or deflect incoming missiles, among other things.

Technical aspects

Binary Smoke cartoon graphic design uses a colourful style bringing to mind the Blade Runner film series.
