An action platformer metroidvania. Blade Chimera has us playing as the warrior Shin, traversing a dystopian sci-fi world, cutting down hordes of monsters while trying to remember his past.
Blade Chimera is an action platformer metroidvania. It was co-created by WSS playground and Team Ladybug, known for such games as Touhou Luna Nights and Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth.
Blade Chimerais set in a grim future, humanity on the brink of extinction due to horrifying monsters. After thirty years of war, the survivors united under the banner of the Missa Association, a religious group whose leader knows how to defeat the demons opposing them.
The protagonist is Shin, an amnesiac warrior and one of the Association's best fighters. He wields the Lumina sword, actually a demon named Lux. The unusual couple traverses the world together, facing all sorts of dangers. On their journey, Shin gradually remembers his past and his forgotten skills.
Blade Chimera is a side-scroller. The player traverses various, interconnected locations, jumps on platforms, avoids traps, obstacles and cuts down enemy hordes. Apart from regular enemies, we'll also face much more powerful bosses. Combat is fast-paced, requiring constant movement and good use of our weapons - Lumina, daggers and ranged weapons. As we progress, we grow more powerful and gain new abilities, becoming capable of fighting stronger foes and reaching previously inaccessible areas.
The Blade Chimera features old-school audio and pixel art visuals.

NookGaming: 9 / 10 by Andrew Camac
Having played other titles from Team Ladybug, I had a feeling that Blade Chimera was going to be good, but I wasn’t expecting it to forcibly inject its way into being one of my favorite Metroidvania titles of all time. A good (albeit rather clichéd) story perfectly carried by a bloody trio of fantastic combat, smooth and responsive controls, and some of the smoothest sprite work I’ve ever seen in my life creates an almost perfect storm for fans of the genre and those tempted to dip their toes in.
TheReviewGeek: 7.5 / 10 by Greg Wheeler
We've seen so many metroidvanias in recent years and Blade Chimera is certainly one that does a good job standing out in the pack. There's a great balance of platforming and combat, while the boss fights are easily the stand-out here. While it is a bit short in length, and the story is chock full of cliches and twists you'll see a mile off, the harmonized blend of combat, platforming and puzzling more than makes up for it.
WayTooManyGames: 8.5 / 10 by Oliver Shellding
Fans of the genre should absolutely dive into Blade Chimera. Tight, brutal and engaging, I could spend another two thousand words singing the praises of the combat, the items and the overall world building. But I think seeing is believing, and you won’t believe what you see. PCor Switch, you should go ahead and gear up: Blade Chimera is ready for you, even if you’re not remotely prepared.
