Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is a sequel of the compilation titled Capcom Fighting Collection, released in 2022. Similar to the original, we are dealing with a package of classic games from the portfolio of the titular Japanese producer. This compilation includes the following classic games:

  1. Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro;
  2. Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001;
  3. Capcom Fighting Evolution;
  4. Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER;
  5. Power Stone
  6. Power Stone 2;
  7. Project Justice;
  8. Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein.

Gameplay

The classics included in Capcom Fighting Collection 2 are fighting games in which we engage in duels in arenas.

  1. Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro, Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 Capcom Fighting Evolution and Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER are classic 2D fighting games.
  2. In the case of the Power Stone series, we are dealing with 3D fighting games, in which characters can move freely around the arenas.
  3. The games Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein and Project Justice, on the other hand, combine three-dimensional graphics with classic side-scrolling, much like the Tekken series.

In each of these productions, we embody characters that vary in terms of available combat skills and range of attacks. The key to success is using these last ones to create impressive and deadly combos.

DarkZero: 8 / 10 by Andi Hamilton

Although the Marvel vs Capcom collection just about edges this one for the quality of games on offer, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is a close second place, with the two Power Stone games and CVS2 in particular being excellent fighting games still worth checking out.

Use a Potion: 8.5 / 10

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 may lack the star power other collections, but it more than makes up for it with quality, rarity, and historical value. This is a collection made for fans – especially those who lived through the Dreamcast era – and it brings back several games that were once locked away on aging hardware. The Power Stone titles alone make this worth the price of admission, and the strong online performance makes them feel more alive than ever. I can’t wait to dominate other players online, and honestly, being able to re-visit it in multiplayer so many years after the Dreamcast days is a real treat. And sure, it’s not without its quirks, but this second Capcom Fighting Collection is undoubtedly a love letter to a fascinating chapter in fighting game history, and one that all fans of the fighting genre are sure to enjoy.

The main pros of the game

  • Nostalgic Game Selection: The collection features beloved titles like Capcom vs. SNK 2, Power Stone 1 & 2, and Project Justice, which many players have fond memories of.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: Users appreciated the smooth online play with rollback netcode, various screen filters, a 2x internal resolution option, and the ability to enable secret characters.
  • Accessibility: The collection allows players to experience games that were previously difficult to access, especially with modern online functionality.
  • Bonus Content: Includes additional features like artwork galleries and remixed soundtracks, which enhance the overall experience.
  • Solid Controls: Many players noted that the controls are responsive and work well across different platforms.

The main cons of the game

  • Limited Content: Many users were disappointed that the collection only includes arcade versions of the games, lacking the additional modes and features found in the Dreamcast and other console versions (e.g., adventure modes, item shops).
  • Online Community Issues: There are concerns about the online player base being small, making it difficult to find matches. The lack of crossplay further exacerbates this issue.
  • Censorship and Changes: Some users noted that certain aspects of the games were censored or altered compared to their original releases, which detracted from the experience for some players.
  • Single Player Content: There is a lack of meaningful single-player content, with many modes being stripped down or absent, leading to a less engaging experience when playing solo.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Missing Console Features: Users lamented the absence of features from console versions, such as the adventure mode in Power Stone 2, character customization, and additional game modes (e.g., survival modes, color edit modes).
  • No Crossplay: The lack of cross-platform multiplayer was a significant drawback for many, limiting the multiplayer experience and community engagement.
  • Inadequate Single Player Options: Users expressed disappointment over the minimal single-player content, which leaves little incentive to replay the games outside of multiplayer.
  • Limited Save Options: The collection features only one quick save slot across all games, which many found frustrating compared to modern standards where multiple save slots are common.

Summary

  • Overall, while Capcom Fighting Collection 2 offers a nostalgic and well-presented selection of classic fighting games, many users feel that the lack of content and features compared to previous console releases significantly undermines its value.
