News about Onimusha: Way of the Sword aren't the only highlights from Capcom Spotlight show
On The Capcom Spotlight, we received a message from the developers of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and also the info about a remaster of the previous installment, and some other announcements from the Japanese developer.

The Capcom Spotlight stream brought a lot of information about the plans of the Japanese developer.
The showcase of the Resident Evil and Street Fighter publisher wasn't too long. Nevertheless, in about half an hour, the company not only presented materials from Monster Hunter: Wilds (including a new trailer), but also announced a remaster of the second installment of the Onimusha series for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (and likely for PS5 and XSX/S as well). The refreshed Samurai’s Destiny will be released later this year, with new options and improvements for modern audiences.
We also know exactly how long players will have to wait for the next collection of two-dimensional fighting games. Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will be released on May 16, 2025 on XOne, PS4, Switch, and PC. Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics hit another platform (XOne), and Mai Shiranui received a new trailer on the occasion of her release in Street Fighter 6.
New Onimusha in 2026
There was no news about Resident Evil at the show, so the spotlight fell on another title.During the show, the devs of Onimusha: Way of the Sword confirmed the game's release in 2026 and revealed new information.
The message to the players (which you can watch below) isn't long, but at least it contains more than just the release date. Akihito Kadowaki, the game developer, pointed out three key elements that are supposed to maintain the most important features of the series:
- characters and enemies are fascinating not only visually, including the new character of Onimusha;
- Kyoto as a location with places of rich history, including the "mysterious and unsettling;"
- an amazing (or "ultimate") sword fight, which is supposed to give satisfaction from cutting down enemies.
Satoru Nihei (director of the new Onimusha) underlined that while traversing Kyoto from the Edo period, we will encounter historical figures - of course, slightly changed by the developers to fit the dark fantasy atmosphere of Onimusha. The developer also suggested that the player's choice of when to use the series' signature mechanic of absorbing the souls of defeated demons will be a key aspect of combat.
Nihei emphasized that Onimusha: Way of the Sword won't be an "impossibly difficult" title, but a game that gives action game fans the pleasure of sword fighting. Unfortunately, the "message" from the developers didn't feature a new gameplay presentation, only a segment of the gameplay trailer that we could watch during The Game Awards 2024 ceremony.
