A first-person horror adventure game, in which we end up in the titular Backrooms known from the popular creepypasta. Chained Backrooms allows us to play as chained agents, tasked with documenting local anomalies. The game supports both singleplayer and coop gameplay.

Backrooms is a popular creepypasta, which is a horror story spread over the Internet. It tells about the titular backrooms, which are seemingly endless, empty spaces, the walls of which are lined with faded wallpaper. Although the location itself may cause unease, the whole thing is spiced up by the fact that something ominous is said to be lurking there.

Backrooms have frequently appeared in video games. This includes titles such as The Backrooms 1998, Escape the Backrooms, and Backrooms Media. Chained Backrooms also joins this group. It is a cooperative adventure game from the horror genre, developed by the Rosa Special Studio team.

Gameplay

In Chained Backrooms we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP).

Tasks

During the game, we play as agents whose mission is to explore the Backrooms and search for anomalies occurring there, as well as documenting them using a camera. The management gives us 20 minutes to meet the standard in terms of the amount of data obtained. However, if we decide earlier that we have done our part, we can ask for the evacuation to be accelerated.

Exploration of the Backrooms

The matter is complicated by the fact that Backrooms are procedurally generated and their layout changes from visit to visit. Given that the whole thing resembles a kind of labyrinth, we need to look out for characteristic places and recurring patterns, so as not to get lost in the maze of similar corridors and rooms. Additional difficulty is posed by the anomalies. They are mysterious creatures that we should not get too close to, as they pose a deadly danger to us.

Chain

A special mention should be given to the chain thanks to which our agent is attached to the other ones. Although it might seem that it often hinders rather than helps, in practice it can be used to one's advantage, for example to reach lower-lying places. Nonetheless, this requires close cooperation of all participants in the game.
