A Polish first-person simulation game. Chinese Frontiers takes us to Ancient China and we become one of the builders tasked with constructing the Great Wall. The game also allows us to build smaller settlements, as well as to cultivate the land and breed animals.
Chinese Frontiers is a simulation game that allows us to experience the life of a builder in ancient China. The game was created by the Polish studio SolidGames. At the same time, two other genre-related projects from this team were in development, namely Venice Master and Monastery Builder.
In Chinese Frontiers we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP).
The game takes us to ancient China and allows us to embody a villager, on whose shoulders rests the task of building the Great Wall. Before we get to that, however, we first need to prove ourselves in other areas, starting with the development of our own settlement.
The adventure leads us through such biomes as mountain peaks, sandy deserts, and river valleys. In each of these places, we gather resources and build settlements, raising various structures - from houses, through workshops, to true wonders of architecture. Apart from the aforementioned Great Wall, which is our magnum opus, there are also defensive towers and powerful fortresses waiting to be constructed.
Individual biomes differ not only in terms of appearance, but also in the resources present there, as well as the challenges we have to face. The process of building and manufacturing objects was presented in a realistic way, including manual stone processing and shaping wood using tools from the era.
This is not the end, because during the game we also take on other duties of a village resident. We can engage in farming and animal husbandry, as well as cooking traditional dishes, using naturally occurring ingredients. We don't have to handle everything ourselves - some duties can be delegated to other characters living in our settlement.
As we progress, we not only improve our skills (following the path set by Jun and Mei, the Chinese masters of craftsmanship), but we also gain access to increasingly advanced infrastructure, enabling us to produce bricks, smelt metals or create decorative elements. Over time our reputation and position in the social hierarchy grows, consequently earning us the recognition of the emperor himself.
