Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy Description
Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy is a tactical battle game set in the World War II times, which focuses mainly on realism. Game was developed by Battlefront team, the authors of the whole series.
The action of the game covers a range of three months starting from the day of the landing of the Allies in Normandy in June 1944. The authors have ensured a realistically recreated theatre of warfare, replete with both field and urban terrain. The game includes two partially dynamic campaigns (one for each side of the conflict), as well as dozens of standalone missions. For more dedicated players, there is an extensive editor that allows you to create new maps, scenarios, and even entire campaigns. There's also a two-player multiplayer mode, and in addition to standard network play, there's also a PBEM (play by email) option and the ability to play multiplayer on one computer in "hot seat" mode.
Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy allows you to take command of units whose parameters and behaviour are based on historical knowledge. The game treats each soldier as a separate character equipped with their own combat skills, equipment and personality. During combat, our subordinates can, for example, help their wounded comrades and share ammunition with other units.
The game offers improved artificial intelligence simulating the behaviour of units on a tactical level. The visuals have undergone a complete metamorphosis. Vehicles now have a high level of detail including even elements such as suspension and animated hatches. The new damage system is so accurate that it is now possible to recreate the individual systems inside each vehicle. Realism was at the forefront of the developers' minds, so gameplay is influenced by elements such as dynamic lighting, weather effects, bullet ballistics, and a destruction system for terrain and buildings.
