A production with elements from 3D platformers, puzzle games, and adventure titles. Its development was supervised by Bruce Straley, director of Uncharted 2 and 4, and The Last of Us. In Coven of the Chicken Foot we assume the role of an old witch working together with a peculiar and characterful creature companion.
Bruce Straley is a famous game director with projects like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, The Last of Us, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End in his portfolio. In 2022, he founded his own development studio, called Wildflower Interactive. Its debut project is a production at the intersection of 3D platformers, puzzle, and adventure games, titled Coven of the Chicken Foot.
In Coven of the Chicken Foot events are viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game we take control of an old witch named Gertie. Although the protagonist looks like a kindly old lady, she has chicken legs, which make her quite agile. For this reason, dexterity-based challenges (requiring things like jumping on platforms) do not pose much of a problem for her.
Along the way, the protagonist encounters difficulties that she wouldn't be able to handle alone. Fortunately, Gertie has at her disposal a peculiar creature that becomes her companion. It is equipped with an individual personality and unique behavior patterns, based on which it reacts to events happening on the screen, and also provides assistance with its skills.
As we progress, we expand the range of these skills and also watch how the relationship between this creature and the main character develops. We watch because the story is conveyed through environmental storytelling and pantomime.
The adventure takes us through dense forests, gloomy dungeons, catacombs that serve as the resting place for fallen heroes, and dangerous swamps. As she explores these areas, Gertie overcomes the aforementioned dexterity challenges and also tackles encountered logic puzzles. The game world has a semi-open structure, and exploring every corner and discovering it on our own can be rewarding.
Gertie steps into action after the heroes who plundered the dungeons and killed the monsters have already moved on. Wanting to prove her worth before the coven, the protagonist must stand up to the heroes and quell their pride.
The graphic design of Coven of the Chicken Foot is maintained in a cartoon style.
