We conduct investigations which force us to change clothes and use other unconventional means, trying to solve the mysterious death of the protagonist's father.

Detective Dotson is a point-and-click adventure game set in contemporary India. The game was developed by the independent Indian studio Masala Games, founded by people who previously worked at companies such as Pixar and Electronic Arts.

Conducting investigations

The driving force of the game are investigations conducted by the main character, during which the protagonist explores locations, interacts with NPCs, as well as collects clues and evidence.

The obtained information goes onto the evidence board, and matching them together takes the form of a peculiar logical puzzle, the solution of which allows to reconstruct the course of events and unravel the given case.

Dress-up games and other unconventional solutions

Although Dotson can indeed talk to anyone, extracting useful information from individuals often involves the need to use cunning and disguise himself in one of the costumes. Some problems can also be solved in even less conventional ways, such as throwing objects at people, animals or elements of the environment (like cameras).

Detective Dotson would be a neat pixel-art screensaver that depicts the vibrantly coloured, densely populated world that is India. As an actual interactive experience? It’s a boring fetch quest and mini-game heavy kind of mess hiding behind a pretty face.
