A point-and-click adventure game. The story in Detective Dotson is set in India. The main chracter is a detective, but his main dream was always to become a Bollywood star. We conduct investigations which force us to change clothes and use other unconventional means, trying to solve the mysterious death of the protagonist's father.
Detective Dotson is a point-and-click adventure game set in contemporary India. The game was developed by the independent Indian studio Masala Games, founded by people who previously worked at companies such as Pixar and Electronic Arts.
In Detective Dotson we watch the events from the side.
The driving force of the game are investigations conducted by the main character, during which the protagonist explores locations, interacts with NPCs, as well as collects clues and evidence.
The obtained information goes onto the evidence board, and matching them together takes the form of a peculiar logical puzzle, the solution of which allows to reconstruct the course of events and unravel the given case.
Although Dotson can indeed talk to anyone, extracting useful information from individuals often involves the need to use cunning and disguise himself in one of the costumes. Some problems can also be solved in even less conventional ways, such as throwing objects at people, animals or elements of the environment (like cameras).
The main character of the game is the titular Detective Dotson. The protagonist had always dreamed of a career in Bollywood, but following his father's advise he decided to follow in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes. When his father dies under mysterious circumstances, our protagonist has no choice but to use his detective skills and unravel the mystery of his death.

Detective Dotson is a small game with great potential. If you are interested in Indian culture, like detective games, and like coziness, you should definitely try it when it comes out in a few days.

Detective Dotson is a glorified fetch quest wearing the hat of a detective game—but it’s also more than that. It’s a vibrant slice of modern Indian life stitched together with humour, heart, and post-it notes. It’s a little bit janky, a lot wholesome, and totally endearing.

As a game proudly rooted in Indian culture, Detective Dotson gets credit for embracing its heritage rather than hiding it. It gets it mostly right. Though a few minor missteps on the journey leave the game feeling a little rough around the edges. If you are a fan of LucasArts games like Monkey Island or Sam and Max, you will probably enjoy solving the puzzles and tracking down clues. However, unlike those games, the route to the end is logical and less esoteric. It’s true, nothing here will make you jump out of your seat or fall off your chair. That being said there is a sense of something potentially much bigger in the future. And I look forward to playing more of Dotson’s adventures and seeing where the story takes him next. So, for his hard work and effort in the field of crime fighting, I give Detective Dotson the Thumb Culture Silver Award
