Direct Contact is a realistic FPS inspired by such games as the first installments of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series, as well as the Operation Flashpoint and ArmA series. The title was developed by an indie developer Erling David and is his debut project. In developing the discussed production the author was assisted by military veterans.
In Direct Contact we observe the action from the first person perspective (FPP). The gameplay takes place in locations diversified in terms of size and challenges waiting for us. On their list we can find both vast "sandboxes" and seemingly peaceful suburbs or buildings' interiors.
It is characterized by an incredible attention to realism and detail. Shooting in bursts in a closed space is not the best idea here, because bullets behave according to the laws of physics, and ricochets can hit both enemies and us. On top of this, enemies communicate with each other and adapt their behaviour to your style of play on the fly, which means they can surprise you by flanking you and taking you out in all sorts of ways. And when things don't go their way, they start to fear us, which also has an impact on their combat effectiveness. It doesn't end there, as the title allows us to arrest surrendering enemies or even overcome closed doors in several ways - by calmly opening them, breaking them down or blowing them up using small explosives. In addition, wounds sustained on the battlefield need time to heal, and after a hit we often have to count on the help of an ally.
All this makes that before starting the game we must carefully analyze the tasks set before us and study the map of the location. Then we have to work out the most detailed plan of action and properly prepare ourselves by choosing the arsenal and accessories for weapons and clothing. At our disposal can be different types of firearms, as well as optional gadgets in the form of explosives or devices that allow us to summon support from the air to a specific location.
Direct Contact features a single-player story campaign and a co-op mode, which allows you to complete missions together. The latter are differentiated in terms of scale; we can find here both large operations played on a vast area, as well as missions taking place within one building. Besides, game offers multiplayer mode based on PvP rules.
Direct Contact runs on Unreal Engine 5 technology and makes very good use of it. Weapons and other elements of soldiers' equipment were designed with attention to detail, as were the locations, which are full of details. Explosions and accompanying particle effects are also impressive.
