The fifth installment of a series of games combining strategy and RPG elements, started back in 1999. Disciples: Domination was developed by Artefacts Studio and we can follow the story of Avyanna, who is the female ruler of the kingdom. The protagonist travels Nevendaar, completes quests and fights battles.
Back in 1999, a series titled Disciples, combining RPG and turn-based strategy elements, made its debut. Since then it has come a long way marked by changes. The biggest of them was introduced by its fourth part, developed by the Frima Studio team and released by Kalypso Media, which in the meantime took over the publishing of this brand. The fifth installment of the series, namely Disciples: Domination, created by the Artefacts Studio team (known for The Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet of Chaos), follows in the footsteps of its predecessor.
In Disciples: Domination we watch the action from a bird's eye view.
The game takes us to the dark, fantastical Nevendaar and once again casts Avyanna as the main female protagonist, who, fifteen years after the events depicted in Disciples: Liberation, sits on the throne in Yllian. Governing is not a bed of roses for her. The crown weighs heavily on her, and dark thoughts of becoming the same monster she once fought against appear in her mind.
During the game, we take direct control over Avyanna, in whose skin we experience various adventures. Our protagonist falls victim to betrayals, gains allies, establishes contacts with the Mountain Clans (whose return may prove to be as great a threat as a chance for new alliances), watches as an ancient cult is born or confronts old adversaries and faces a corrupt clairvoyant.
How the further fate of both her and the entire kingdom will unfold largely depends on our actions and the decisions we make.
We travel the game world in real time. Exploring Nevendaar, we get to know its inhabitants, carry out quests, and also face opponents.
The battles take place in a turn-based mode, on arenas covered with a grid of hexagonal fields. We lead the main protagonist and her companions, as well as units representing five factions, diversified in terms of strengths and combat abilities. Developers have accelerated the pace of battles compared to the past games and introduced events that have added dynamism to the fights.
As we progress, we develop Avyanna, gradually increasing her combat potential. We can also improve her companions, as well as the units fighting by her side.
Avyanna must also take care of matters related to the management of the kingdom and its army. When making choices, it is worth consulting with the hero's companions, because the decisions we make affect how our rule is perceived by the factions operating on our lands.

Game Ratings for Disciples: Domination Video Game.
NoobFeed: 77 / 100 by Joy Rahman
One of the biggest strengths of Disciples: Domination is how it handles choices and consequences. Your decisions as a ruler matter. Supporting one faction may damage another relationship. Ignoring problems can lead to long-term issues. Solving grievances costs resources and sometimes reputation.
GameWatcher: 5.5 / 10 by Bogdan Robert
Disciples: Domination is a flawed, by-the-numbers strategy RPG that shows some creativity with its units and certain boss mechanics, but lacks enough depth and variety to sustain the amount of fights it throws at you across its decently lengthy campaign. Its writing lacks a consistent tone, its world fails to grip you, while Avyanna only stands out as one of the most unconvincing protagonists to date, making Domination a functional but rather forgettable second entry in the series.
Gamer Social Club: 8 / 10 by Dan Jackson
I went into Disciples: Domination with no prior knowledge of the series and have come out the other side a fan. Its grievance and resource system builds a solid foundation for a sequel and Nevendaar and its casts of characters is a world I want to see more of. If Artefacts can flesh out some of the new mechanics to have even more variety and get the combat to require just a bit more strategy they truly have something here. As is Disciples: Domination is a very good RPG that should be worth a look to anyone into turn based RPGs.
