A combination of an RPG and a simulation game, allowing us to run our own store. The gameplay in Discounty involves ordering goods, placing them on the shelves, serving customers and making sure that the place is clean. We can also develop relations with the residents of Blomkest after hours.

The Danish development studio Crinkle Cut Games has been on the industry map since 2021. The debut project of this group of developers is Discounty, an RPG with simulation elements.

The game takes us to the fictional port town of Blomkest, where we arrive at the invitation of our aunt. The task that awaits us here is to manage the titular store and transform it into a thriving business, and consequently - restore the former glory to the whole of Blomkest.

Gameplay

In Discounty we watch the action from a bird's eye view. We can control a character to whom we give a name and an individual appearance.

Working in a store

Our main task during the game is running a store. For this purpose, we need to design aisles, arrange goods on shelves, place decorations, and ensure cleanliness both in the store itself and in the warehouse.

DualShockers: 7.5 / 10 by Ethan Krieger

Discounty is the right type of cozy game that you can get completely lost inside for a few days. It thrives in the "Just one more day" zone and has an addictive loop that feels good as a distraction from the real world.

NintendoWorldReport: 7 / 10 by Allyson Cygan

My hesitation is that I think it's about halfway there between being a fun indie shop sim and being an indie game with a message, and I wish they could have pushed their narrative just a bit further to be more memorable. Discounty is still worth playing, but it makes me want to see what the developers can do next. While the ideas and the gameplay are there, there's some untapped potential as well.
