The main pros of the game

  • Character Variety: A large roster of characters (24 in total), each with unique abilities and playstyles, provides depth and encourages experimentation.
  • Replayability: The roguelite elements, including random power-ups and unlockable characters, enhance replayability. Players can enjoy different experiences with each run.
  • Dynamic Combat: The tag-team mechanic allows players to switch between characters, creating opportunities for complex combos and strategies.
  • Solid Art and Sound Design: The pixel art style and remixed soundtracks from previous games in the series are well-received, contributing to the overall enjoyment of the game.
  • Frequent Updates: Developers continue to add new characters and content for free, which keeps the player base engaged.

The main cons of the game

  • Short Length: The game is criticized for being too short, with only four main levels and one optional level, leading to a quick completion time.
  • Multiplayer Issues: Online multiplayer experiences can be buggy, with issues like desynchronization and character glitches.
  • Difficulty Balancing: Some players find the game too easy, especially when using certain characters, leading to a lack of challenge.
  • Control Limitations: The controls can feel sluggish or unresponsive at times, and the dual function of the action button (for both grabs and item pickups) can be frustrating.
  • Environmental Hazards: Players note that some level designs can lead to confusion regarding depth perception, making navigation challenging.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Levels: Many players express a desire for additional levels and content to extend gameplay.
  • Training Mode: A practice mode to test combos and learn character abilities would enhance the experience, especially for newcomers.
  • Customization Options: Players wish for more customization in character abilities and moves, including the ability to change special moves or add alternate costumes.
  • High Score Tracking: A personal high-score system for survival mode would provide an additional layer of competition and motivation.
  • Improved Blocking Mechanics: Some players miss the ability to block and counter moves, which could add depth to combat strategy.

Summary

  • Overall, "Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons" is viewed as a solid addition to the beat 'em up genre, particularly for fans of the franchise, but it has room for improvement in terms of content depth and gameplay mechanics.
