A third-person exploration game with an abstract visual style, made by the creators of the PixelJunk series. Dreams of Another has us playing as a character discovering dreamlike locations. The weapons in the game aren't used for destruction, but instead for shooting at the fog and creating new things.
The independent studio Q-Games has made its mark in the history of video games primarily through the PixelJunk series. Nevertheless, from time to time, developers from Kyoto engage in various "side projects." One of them is Dreams of Another described here, which is an exploratory action game. A unique aspect of this game is that shooting does not destroy the environment, but creates it.
In Dreams of Another we view the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).
During the game we play as two characters, the Man in Pajamas and the Wandering Soldier. We explore colorful, dreamlike locations and uncover a story conveyed through dialogues conducted not only with NPCs but also with objects.
Although our characters carry firearms, they operate in an unusual way. The environment is covered with a kind of "fog", and by shooting at it, we gradually discover its subsequent elements. Besides a machine gun, we can also acquire a rocket launcher, which allows us to "uncover" larger areas of terrain and the objects within them in one go.
The graphics in Dreams of Another are maintained in a unique, abstract style. The gameplay is accompanied by music composed by Bayion (Tomohisa Kuramitsu), who is also the director of this project.

Game Ratings for Dreams of Another Video Game.
Impulsegamer: 4 / 5
A subversive, existential shooter for lovers of games as art and art house movies.
Use a Potion: 7 / 10
Dreams of Another is strange, slow, and often hard to interpret, but it’s also imaginative, beautiful, and genuinely unlike anything else I’ve played. Its repetitive structure and heavy-handed philosophy can test your patience, yet there’s something oddly soothing about the process of shooting a world into existence and uncovering its quiet mysteries – and that’s coming from me, a Call of Duty fan. It has some flaws, sure, but Dreams of Another certainly left a lasting impression on me. It’s not a game that everyone will enjoy, but for those open to its experimental design and philosophical musings, it offers a rewarding experience that lingers after the credits roll.
Softpedia: 7 / 10 by Cosmin Vasile
At first, I had no idea what to expect from Dreams of Another, as screenshots and trailers don’t make it justice. It seems like a generic, pixelated shooter, although the game is much more than that. It’s a game that focuses on creating a great, different experience, and it mostly sticks the landing in my opinion. Yes, it’s not flawless, nor does it try to be.
