The independent team Winter Crew from the Philippines decided to debut on the industry map by creating an original metroidvania in the form of a platform action game. It was enriched with elements taken from the jRPG genre, and also inspired by the roguelikes. We're talking about the game Fallen Tear: The Ascension. Its creation was made possible partially thanks to a successful fundraising campaign on Kickstarter.

Gameplay

In Fallen Tear: The Ascension we watch the action from the side.

Adventure in a fantasy world

The game takes us to the fantasy land of Raoah, and we take on the role of Hira, a child destined to fight against ancient beasts. Before that happens, however, Hira must first embark on a dangerous journey through various locations (from forests, through cities, to ruins), fight numerous battles with opponents (led by powerful bosses), and also gather a team of dedicated allies, each with their own personality and individual skills.

Combat, exploration, character development

Fights with enemies are dynamic, and during them we must not only demonstrate agility and reflexes (which are also useful when overcoming platform sections), but also skillfully use the strengths of Hira and the abilities of other characters (among which we will find mages, fencers or healers). The locations we visit are connected to each other, forming something like a labyrinth. As we progress, we develop Hira, and the unlocked upgrades stay with us after death.

Relations with allies and castle

It's worth remembering that our actions shape our relationships with other team members, and also affect the locations we visit. In between great adventures, we can retreat to a castle, which can be adapted to individual needs and preferences. There are various mini-games available and diverse upgrades are waiting to be unlocked.
