Forged Battalion for PC is a science-fiction RTS game developed by Petroglyph (a studio popular for Star Wars: Empire At War, Grey Goo and 8-bit Armies) and published by Team17.

Plot

Forged Battalion is set towards the end of the twenty-first century, and the creators' depiction of the future is not optimistic. Climatic changes have devastated our planet and weakened the world superpowers, allowing for the birth of a powerful military organization known as The Collective – they have taken control over a large part of the Earth's territory.

A resistance to that group is formed, and the player assumes the role of a commander serving in the ranks.

The main cons of the game

  • Unbalanced AI and Campaign Difficulty: Many users find the AI to be overly challenging, even on easy difficulty, leading to a frustrating experience.
  • Shallow Customization Impact: While the customization feature is initially appealing, players feel that it doesn't significantly affect gameplay, leading to repetitive strategies.
  • Underwhelming Campaign: The single-player campaign is criticized for being short, formulaic, and lacking a compelling story. It often feels like a tutorial rather than a full campaign.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Expanded Base Management: Suggestions include allowing players to build multiple types of production buildings and mobile outposts to enhance base expansion strategies.
  • Observer Mode and AI Faction Selection: Users would like the option to observe matches and choose AI factions from their own creations for more varied gameplay.
  • More Diverse Tech Trees: A wider variety of impactful upgrades and more unique unit designs would enhance the customization experience.

Summary

  • Overall, while Forged Battalion has a promising concept and some enjoyable mechanics, it struggles with execution and balance, leaving many players feeling that it falls short of its potential.
