Forgotlings is an action adventure platforming metroidvania with adventure elements. It was developed by an indie studio Throughline Games, also responsible for the beautiful, warmly received game Forgotton Anne.

Plot

Forgotlings is set in the fantasy world of Forgotten Lands. It's where the titular Forgotlings, beings born from objects forgotten by their owners, live. When a mysterious beast prophesied to devour the world and plunge it into darkness starts threatening the realm, a doll named Fig sets out on a journey to unite the Fortogling tribes and face the danger together before it's too late. She travels the world aboard a sentient ship, Volare, the crew of which gradually expands over time.

Mechanics

Forgotlings is a side-scroller. The game is set in various different locations - the massive Dunes desert and towering Agora mountains - all interconnected, creating a labirynth of sorts. We move between these areas aboard the ship, which serves both as means of transport for Fig and her companions, as well as a mobile base of operations.

To progress, we must complete quests given to us by the land's inhabitants. Apart from story missions there are also numerous side quests. Many people won't be willing to divulge their problems to us right away, so we must often break the ice first.

We can gain the Forgotlings' trust through the INA board game, played using gathered Power Stones, the results of which we can bet on using crystals acquired during our journey. Though it can be treated just as a distraction from our voyages, we can also take a serious interest in it, participate in tournaments and become more skilled, trying to earn the title of grandmaster.

During our quests we'll encounter enemies, whom we can deal with in two ways. Though we can just face them in open combat, oftentimes it's better to sneak past them and take them by surprise.

Technical aspects

Forgotlings features colorful, cartoonish visuals and an expansive choral soundtrack performed by the esteemed Theatre of Voices.
